POLICY & PROCEDURE FOR A CHILD BEING LOST
Children are in the care of the pre-school until they are handed over to parents/carers at the end of each session. All staff have equal responsibility for the safety of all children whilst in their care and as such will take every precaution necessary to ensure their safety.
All staff will ensure that access/exit doors are locked and cannot be unlocked by the children. Outside areas are secure and always supervised.
In the unlikely event of a child being lost the following procedure will be followed:
The supervisor will make a ‘head count’ of all the children present against the register to confirm that there is a child missing.
A member of staff will be sent to ensure that the child is nowhere else in the pre-school e.g.toilet area.
A member of staff will be sent to search beyond the grounds e.g. immediate access areas.
The supervisor will contact the parents/carers and the Police will be alerted.
All staff are aware and will ensure that….
The register is updated as soon as a child arrives/leaves pre-school
Any communication by parents/carers and/or messages regarding absence and changes to collection arrangements will be written in a staff communication book or on register and in addition all staff will be verbally informed of such changes.
